providers Fox Mill Family Practice was established in 1981 by Dr. Allen Howe.  Dr. Steven  Larson joined the group in 1983.  Sherry Yuras, our nurse practitioner and diabetes specialist, joined in 1995,  Dr. John Youk started in our practice in August 2004 and Dr. Heather Stec joined the practice in December 2008.  
Dr. Howe  

Dr. Howe founded Fox Mill Family Practice in 1981.  He grew up in the Northern Virginia area.  After receiving a B.S. in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary in 1974, he obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1978.  He completed his residency with the MCV – Fairfax Family Practice Program in 1981.  Dr. Howe is a board-certified family practice physician.  He is interested in the use of computers in the practice of medicine.  He is married and lives in Herndon and has two children now past college.  In his spare time he can be found playing his clarinet and saxophone in various local musical groups.  See the musical links in the News & Events page.

Dr. Larson  

Dr. Larson has been with Fox Mill Family Practice since 1983. He grew up in the Seattle area and graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Zoology in 1974. He received his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1979, and completed his residency with the MCV – Fairfax Family Practice Program in 1982. Dr. Larson is a board-certified family practice physician. He enjoys the broad scope that the practice of family medicine provides. He lives in Herndon with his wife and has two children past college. He continues to enjoy following the Huskies and other Seattle sports teams.

Dr. Stec  

Dr. Stec grew up in Dalton, Pennsylvania.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Biological Basis of Behavior.  Following college, she worked for three years at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.  She then returned to Philadelphia and attended Thomas Jefferson Medical College graduating with her M.D.degree in 2001. She completed her residency here at the MCV - Fairfax Family Practice program in 2004.  Dr. Stec is board certified in Family Medicine.  She has a special interest in pediatrics.  She currently lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, sons and two cats.

Dr. Youk  

Dr. Youk joined Fox Mill Family Practice in 2004.  He grew up in Los Angeles, CA, and completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of California at Berkeley in 1996.  After receiving his medical degree from the University of Virginia Medical School in 2001, he completed his residency with the MCV – Fairfax Family Practice Program in 2004.  Dr. Youk is a board-certified family practice physician. He has special interests in sports and preventive medicine, office procedures, pediatric and adult medicine.  He currently lives in the Fairfax community with his wife, two sons and daughter.

Ms. Yuras  

Mrs. Yuras has been with Fox Mill Family Practice since 1995.   She grew up in Rockville, Maryland and graduated in 1985 from George Mason University with a B.S. in Nursing.  After obtaining her M.A. in Counseling and Psychological Services in 1994 from Marymount University, she also received her M.S. in Nursing/ Family Nurse Practitioner in 1995.  She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner.  Mrs. Yuras was a founding member of the Herndon Free Clinic.  She lives in Herndon with her husband, a captain in the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department, Her daughter attends the University of Virginia.   She also has a son who is a U.S. Army Captain with the 3rd Infantry/4th Brigade.  In her spare time she enjoys cross-stitch, reading, scrapbooking, and church activities.

Nursing Staff
Nursing staffJoan Rose R.N. is our head nurse and has been with the practice since the beginning.  Marcia Henderson R.N. has been with us for over 15 years.  Darnell Daniels LPN is also part of our nursing staff.  We have two medical assistants, Maureen Murray and Terri McShane CMA.  These are the people who keep the clinical side of the office running.
